A Dog and a Fox Rescued From a Frozen Water Basin

In the village of Yohmor, Lebanon, a massive artificial water reservoir became the setting for an unthinkable scene. At the bottom of the deep concrete basin, two animals were found trapped—a dog and a fox. The reservoir was lined with slick black plastic, its steep walls impossible to climb. Below, icy water pooled around floating debris. With no escape, the two animals huddled together on a torn mattress, trembling in the cold.

An Unnatural Alliance Born From Fear

Under normal circumstances, a dog and a fox would never share space peacefully. But desperation erased instinct. Cold, exhausted, and frightened, they pressed close to survive. According to locals, the situation was no accident. The dog belonged to a nearby farmer. When the fox attempted to steal chickens, the enraged owner reportedly punished both animals by throwing them into the reservoir, abandoning them to suffer.

A Call for Help That Couldn’t Be Ignored

Some passersby noticed the animals the day before and tried unsuccessfully to help. The depth and danger made rescue impossible without proper equipment. When animal rescuer Houssein saw a desperate plea shared on social media, he immediately acted. He drove nearly four hours through the cold to reach the site, knowing time was running out.

Facing the Risk Without Hesitation

The weather was bitterly cold. The water below was near freezing. Both animals were barely holding on. Descending into the reservoir was dangerous, but waiting longer could mean losing them both. With ropes, a secure animal crate, and a capture pole, Houssein prepared to descend while his team supported him from above.

Lowered carefully into the reservoir, Houssein reached the fox first. Though terrified, the fox did not fight aggressively, as if sensing help had finally arrived. With calm movements, Houssein guided the fox into the crate. The team above pulled it to safety.
Next came the dog—soaked, thin, and shaking. Houssein gently secured a loop around his neck. As the dog was lifted along the slippery wall, he remained remarkably calm, trusting the process. One by one, both prisoners were freed from the cold concrete trap.

Warmth, Food, and the First Signs of Relief

The animals were rushed to warmth. Food was offered. The dog—later named Basin Fighter—ate eagerly, revealing just how hungry he had been. The fox, still overwhelmed, needed time before accepting food. Over the following days, both received medical care, rest, and safety.

Two Lives, Two Different Futures

After a week of recovery and veterinary checks, the fox regained strength and confidence. He was released back into the wild, returned to a safe mountainous area where he belonged.
Basin Fighter’s story took a different turn. He would never return to the person who betrayed him. Instead, he was welcomed by a new family. The final moments show him climbing into a car, tail wagging—heading toward a home built on kindness, not cruelty.
