A Life That Changed Because of One Small Dog

Six years ago, Bruno Jelovic had no connection to animal rescue.

He was a tattoo artist. His world revolved around ink, design, and clients—not kennels and veterinary clinics.

Everything shifted when he adopted a small French Bulldog named Mia.

Mia did something no one else had done.

She opened his heart.

Through her, Bruno began to understand the emotional depth of dogs—their loyalty, their sensitivity, their quiet dependence on human kindness. Loving Mia made him see something else clearly: how many animals never experience that love at all.

And once he saw it, he could not unsee it.

When One Rescue Became a Promise

Bruno founded the nonprofit organization Save The Dogs BiH with a mission that felt impossible to most.

He would rescue dogs from municipal shelters before they disappeared into overcrowded systems. He would pull them from the streets before they were captured and confined.

The first dog he saved from one of these city facilities was Embolo.

That moment—when Embolo stepped out of confinement and into a rescue vehicle—marked the beginning of something much larger than a single adoption.

It was proof that change could begin with one life.

Building a Sanctuary Where Fear Could Fade

Rescue alone was not enough.

Bruno knew that saving dogs required space, structure, and stability. So he began building rescue ranches—open environments where animals could move freely instead of living behind bars.

The first ranch became home to 200 dogs.

Soon, a second ranch followed, with space for 400 to 500 more.

Today, Bruno cares for approximately 850 dogs.

Each one has a name.
Each one has a story.
Each one was once overlooked.

At the ranches, dogs receive veterinary care, vaccinations, proper nutrition, and something they may never have known before—consistency.

Some arrive malnourished.
Some carry untreated injuries.
Some bear scars from illegal dog fighting.

All are met with patience.

All are treated with dignity.

Freedom Looks Different Here

Unlike municipal shelters where space is tight and movement restricted, Bruno’s ranches offer open air and room to run.

Dogs spend their days outdoors.
They socialize.

They rest under the sun instead of fluorescent lights.

Bruno does not see them as numbers.
