A Dog Found Wandering With an Enormous Tumor

When rescuers first encountered Bubbles, a five-year-old Neapolitan Mastiff mix, the sight was heartbreaking.

He was walking alone along the streets with a massive tumor growing on the left side of his face. The swelling was so large that it pushed his eye out of position and made his face appear painfully distorted.

The tumor was inflamed, sensitive, and filled with blood.

Yet despite the discomfort, Bubbles remained incredibly gentle. In fact, rescuers noticed something that touched their hearts deeply—when he lay down to rest, he carefully placed his head on the tumor as if it were a pillow.

Even through pain, his calm and trusting nature never faded.

Veterinarians at BARCS quickly realized how serious his condition was. There was concern that the tumor might already have spread to his lungs. Surgery would be extremely complex, with a high risk of blood loss.

But everyone agreed on one thing.

A Difficult Surgery and a Brave Recovery

On the sixth day after his rescue, Bubbles underwent a delicate surgery.

Veterinary surgeons worked carefully to remove nearly the entire tumor while reconstructing the damaged area of his face. The procedure was long and complicated, and afterward Bubbles was closely monitored in the intensive care unit.

The days that followed brought cautious optimism.

By Day 10, Bubbles had begun eating normally again. His appetite returned, and he started gaining weight. As the swelling slowly decreased, his personality began shining through.

Soon he was walking outside, exploring the yard, and leaning happily into the people who cared for him.

There were still challenges ahead.

Around Day 20, he developed an infection that required additional treatment. Fortunately, with the right antibiotics and careful monitoring, the infection began to improve.

Through every obstacle, Bubbles remained patient and cooperative.

A New Family Steps Forward

By Day 27, Bubbles had gained nearly fourteen pounds and was growing stronger each day. Although the eye affected by the tumor could no longer see, he adapted well and continued enjoying life.

Then wonderful news arrived.

A loving family in North Carolina had followed his journey and decided they wanted to welcome him into their home. For Bubbles, it meant something he may never have experienced before—a place where he truly belonged.

But his journey was not finished yet.

Continuing the Fight

Around Day 60, veterinarians noticed a small new growth near the same area of his cheekbone. Scans also showed that tumors in his lungs were developing more quickly than expected.

It was difficult news.

However, additional blood tests revealed that the disease had not spread widely through his body. That meant Bubbles still had another option.

Doctors began a specialized treatment using Samarium therapy, a targeted medical approach designed to slow and destroy tumor cells.

This treatment gave Bubbles another chance to keep fighting.

And he faced it with the same quiet bravery that had carried him this far.

A Life Full of Friendship and Joy

By Day 110, Bubbles had completed his course of antibiotics and recovered from previous infections. His strength returned steadily, and his cheerful personality once again filled the home around him.

Now living with his adoptive family, Bubbles found something even more special—a best friend.

Another dog named Gus, who happens to be blind, quickly became his constant companion. The two rarely leave each other’s side, forming a bond built on comfort, understanding, and trust.

Together they share naps, walks, and quiet moments that make each day brighter.
