Some animals spend years surviving quietly on the streets.

His muscles had nearly disappeared from months—or perhaps years—of poor nutrition.

Yet throughout the examination, the elderly dog remained calm. He allowed the veterinarians to examine him without resistance, as if he understood they were there to help.
