In a dry, overgrown area where few people would stop to look, a small dog lay hidden among the bushes.
Her body was thin. Her fur was dirty and tangled. And her eyes carried a deep exhaustion, as if she had been enduring pain for far too long.
This little dog would later be named Mamta.
When a rescuer from Saahas for Animals Foundation spotted her, it was clear she could not survive much longer without help.
Gently, the rescuer lifted Mamta and wrapped her in a soft cloth, offering warmth and a sense of safety for the first time in what must have felt like a very long time.
A Hidden Injury Revealed
As Mamta was brought into better light, the full extent of her condition became clear.
There was a large wound on her neck, just below her ear.
It was deep and severely infected.
The injury had likely been there for some time. Signs of infection were visible, and the surrounding skin was inflamed. It was clear that the wound caused significant discomfort, leaving Mamta weak and in constant pain.
Yet despite everything, she remained calm in the rescuer’s arms.
As if she understood she was finally being helped.

Care Begins at the Veterinary Clinic
Mamta was quickly taken to a veterinary clinic where a team was ready to provide immediate care.
The first step was to carefully clean the wound.
Using antiseptic solutions and soft materials, the veterinary staff gently removed infection and cleaned the affected area. Every movement was done with patience to minimize discomfort.
It was a delicate process—but an essential one.
At the same time, Mamta’s overall condition required attention. Her body was weak from lack of proper nutrition, so she was placed on intravenous fluids to help restore strength and deliver necessary medications.
Surrounded by calm voices and careful hands, Mamta remained still throughout the treatment.
The First Signs of Stability
After receiving initial care, Mamta was given time to rest.
Her body began to respond to the treatment. With fluids, medication, and warmth, her condition slowly stabilized.
Though still fragile, she showed quiet signs of resilience.
Her breathing became more even. Her body relaxed slightly. And for the first time, she appeared more at ease in her surroundings.
It was the beginning of something new.

A Journey That Requires Time and Care
Mamta’s recovery would not happen overnight.
Healing a deep wound takes patience, consistency, and ongoing care. The veterinary team continued monitoring her closely, ensuring that infection was controlled and her body remained strong enough to heal.
At the same time, the gentle presence of her caregivers played an important role.
Through soft voices and careful attention, Mamta began to feel safe.
And sometimes, that feeling is just as important as medicine.
A Reminder of Compassion
Mamta’s story is still unfolding, but it already carries a powerful message.
There are many animals in similar situations—hidden, struggling, and waiting for someone to notice them.
Rescue efforts like this are made possible through the compassion of individuals and communities who choose to help.
Because of one moment of kindness, Mamta now has a chance.
A chance to heal.
A chance to feel safe.
And a chance to begin again.
